On June 22, 1942, Germany's blitzkrieg invasion of Soviet Russia ignited the Russo-German War, a pivotal conflict in World War II. The Battle of Stalingrad marked a turning point, leading to Russian counteroffensives culminating in the 1943 Kursk tank battles. The Soviet Union urgently needed more powerful tanks, prompting the Central Design Bureau to create the KV-85 heavy tank by upgrading the KV-1S chassis and installing a new turret. Joseph Yakovlevich Kotin led efforts to enhance the KV-85's firepower, ultimately testing and adopting the 122mm / D-25T gun for a prototype heavy tank, the KV-122. However, this model's production was not approved as the Soviets later developed the renowned IS-2 heavy tank. Models are supplied unpainted and require assembly.
